Malaysia - An Introduction
One of the most established countries in South-East Asia, Malaysia is part of the Asian mainland connecting Thailand the rest of the northern countries and a part of Borneo island. Both the islands are separated via the South China Sea and has the Malaccan Straits over at the West.
The mainland, known as Peninsular Malaysia is bordered by Thailand in the north and Singapore in the south. Often times known as West Malaysia, it also hosts the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia consists of 13 states and 3 federal territories. The 13 states are, Johor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Selangor, Terengganu and Kelantan in the Peninsular while in East Malaysia there is Sabah and Sarawak. The Federal Territories are Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan of which they are governed by the Federal Administration.
Each state has its own set of cities and towns as well as capitals. However, there are a few federal declared cities. They are the capital of the country Kuala Lumpur, administrative center Putrajaya and financial hub Labuan. Other cities include Georgetown, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Malacca and Miri.

Apart from that, the Indians converse in mostly Tamil while the Chinese speaks Mandarin in most states while Kuala Lumpur and Penang and a few other cities converse mainly in Cantonese. Other dialects include Hokkien, Teochew and Hakka as well.
Abbreviated RM or MY, The Malaysian currency is the ringgit, where each Ringgit is equivalent to 100 sen. The currency uses syllings and bank notes. Coin denominations comes in 1s which will not be used after April 2008, 5s, 10s, 20s, and 50s going with the label sen (Malay word for cent) while bank notes come in of RM1s, 2s (which is slowly phasing out), 5s, 10s, 50s and 100s.
